The Case For Messiah

Course Description
In this course, we take in depth look at several passages which are fundamental to the Jewish-Christian debate about the person and work of the Messiah in the Hebrew Bible. For each passage, the strongest arguments against the Messianic interpretation is presented, followed by an exegetical defense of the Messianic interpretation.
Course Goals
- To become familiar with the strongest arguments against the Messianic interpretation of key passages in the Hebrew Bible.
- To become familiar with the strongest exegetical responses in defense of the Messianic interpretation of key passages in the Hebrew Bible.
- To learn the essentials skills for a text-centered hermeneutic.
Learning Outcome
- To be emboldened to share the gospel from the Hebrew Bible.
- To be better equipped to defend the NT’s interpretation of the Hebrew Bible as well as to defend the Messianic faith.
- To grow in a desire to carefully study the Scriptures.
Course Structure
The lessons will be held through a Zoom format, consisting of lectures and interactive discussions between all participants. All together there will be 10 three hour (with breaks) Live zoom lectures.
Recordings will be available to registered students to watch multiple times during the time of the course and for six weeks after it ends. It won’t be possible to download video lectures to personal PC.
We cannot ensure the quality of zoom recordings should technical failures occur. We also cannot gurantee that all parts will be recorded. Therefore, it is NOT possible to register for recordings only. Students need to participate in all live lectures.

Instructor: Dr. Seth Postell
Dr. Seth Postell is the academic dean of Israel College of the Bible in Netanya Israel and has a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible with an emphasis on the Pentateuch. He has authored a number of publications, including Adam as Israel (2011), Reading Moses, Seeing Jesus (2017), several articles in The Moody Handbook of Messianic Prophecy and translated the Book of Genesis for the Tree of Life Version of the Bible (2019). He also serves as a lay leader of a multi-ethnic congregation in the city of Petah Tikvah, Israel.
